Atlantis Cup® 2023 with the highest participation in the last 28 years
The 34th edition of the Atlantis Cup® kicked off on the island of Santa Maria. A clean start, off Vila do Porto, with the wind blowing from the NW, at a speed of 8 knots.
The sailboats that make up the Autonomy Regatta fleet connect, in the first oceanic stage, the islands of Santa Maria and São Miguel, a distance of 55 nautical miles, arriving in Ponta Delgada.
With forty sailboats, the Atlantis Cup® 2023 fleet is one of the largest ever, with the OPEN, ANC and ORC classes represented. The participation record was reached in 1995, with 42 sailboats.
For Lúcio Rodrigues, president of Clube Naval da Horta, the strong participation in the 2023 edition “is a source of pride and a reflection of the work that has been developed, continuing what has been done for many years”.
The Atlantis Cup® returns, in 2023, to be part of the Azores Regional Cruise Sailing Championship, which will begin on Monday (July 31), with the first three technical regattas, held in Ponta Delgada (ORC class).
Composed of three ocean regattas (Santa Maria – São Miguel; São Miguel – Terceira; Terceira – Faial) the Atlantis Cup® 2023 includes a set of nine technical regattas to be held on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Faial (three on each island) .
The vessels competing in the Regional Cruise Sailing Championship (ORC) carry out two ocean races (Ponta Delgada – Angra do Heroísmo; Angra do Heroísmo – Horta) and nine technical races.
The IX Regional Cruise Sailing Championship of the Azores is part of the Calendar of Official Sailing Events of the Azores and is responsible for the Azores Regional Sailing Association (ARVA).
Vessels registered in OPEN and ANC only carry out the three ocean races.
The Atlantis Cup® is organized by the Clube Naval da Horta, in partnership with the Clube Naval de Santa Maria, Clube Naval de Ponta Delgada, Angra Iate Clube and Clube Náutico de Angra do Heroísmo.
The Atlantis Cup® 2023 is highly sponsored by the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
